    Sew Simple Sewcialites - Sew Anything 0 Classes

    Dear all Sew Simple Socialites,

    We are so pleased to be opening for sewing again for Sew Simple Socialites.

    Come and sew those unfinished projects or start a new project in a friendly and relaxed environment. Complete beginners are welcome! We are offering these sewing classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 2pm which is specifically designed to give you 4 hours of uninterrupted sewing time to work on whatever project you choose.

    These Sew Anything Classes are the ideal time to learn new techniques and get focused help from our experienced staff in a friendly no stress environment, simply go at your own pace. Rotary cutters, mats, rulers and irons are available for your use in the class area. Bring your own sewing machine.

    To keep everybody safe in line with social distancing regulations we will be limiting class numbers so that everyone is 1.5m apart.  There will be a limit of 4 people and one teacher.   

    The cost will be $20.00.  You just need to give us a ring to secure your place.

    You are welcome to bring your lunch with you. Morning tea is included.

    Introduction to Ruler Work with Clementine 0 Classes

    This 4 hour class is an introduction to ruler work using both the HandiQuilter and a domestic machine.
     
    The class will cover:
     
    - Basic tension tips and tricks
    - Introduction to the types of Handi Quilter rulers available
    - Discussion of the different applications of these rulers such as dot to dot, in the ditch and traditional Free Motion Quilting (FMQ) designs using the rulers as a guide.
    - Clementine will show you the process of using rulers and how you can easily move from one shape to the next.
    - Making frames to feature FMQ and the use of mirror pieced designs in negative space. 
     
    This is a hands on class so you can practice these techniques on your own sample.
     
    This is a small class so you recieve individualised attention. Cost $80.00. Please contact Sew Simple to secure your place.

    Join award winning quilter Clementine O’Sullivan as she starts you down the journey of Free Motion Quilting. You will learn the basics of free motion theory and technique, and develop your own interpretation of some common free motion designs. Empower yourself to quilt embellish your patching working designs by quilting them yourself. This class assume no prior free motion or quilting experience. Requirements: your sewing machine in good working order, free motion foot for your machine, sandwich of fabric and batting (about 50cm square), thread and notions.

    Introduction to Patchwork with Malanie

    Introduction to Patchwork with Malanie – Make a Lap Quilt: Cost $220.00

    This 5 week beginners course will cover the basics of Patchwork and Quilting from the tools you will need, to how to prepare your fabric, whether starching, prewashing or using ‘as is’.

    Malanie will show you how to safety cut fabric with a rotary cutter and ruler, ironing and pressing practices and how to sew (piece) your first quilt block. You will need to bring your sewing machine (in good working order).

    Class size limited to 5.

    Class Dates: April 10 and 17, May 1, 8, 15 (please note there is no class on 24 April due to the ANZAC Day long weekend)

    This 2-hour class is from 6pm to 8pm and runs for 4 weeks. This class would suit anyone who has purchased a new overlocker (or if you have had one for a while in the cupboard!) or if you struggle with threading, tension and the general operation of your overlocker. This class will suit owners of any brand of overlocker. Class sizes are limited so you receive individualized attention from the teacher. What you need to bring with you: Overlocker (in good working order) and instruction manual Sewing notions such as thread snips, scissors, tweezers, threader A variety of different materials to practice on such as chiffon, polyester, stretch material etc.- just whatever you have in your stash Approximately 50cm of plain cotton material to cut up and use when preparing your different stitch samples We will provide you with cottons in red, yellow, green and blue that correspond to the colour of threading on your machine.

    Modern Techniques for Newish Quilters
    These classes are for 6 weeks on Tuesdays from 10am to 2pm and shows learners modern patchwork techniques such as 1/2 square triangles, flying geese, strip piecing, peepers, using the Accuquilt cuting machine, machine applique and a small amount of hand applique is used. You will be shown how to finish your quilt with borders adn binding. Homework is required between lessons.
